Bangkok Oct 2017: After You Cafe
Bangkok is the cafe-hopper's paradise. During my April stopover in Bangkok, I was introduced to After You Cafe and I wanted to go back to try all the mille-crepe cakes. And that's what I did...
The icy Kakigori desserts and Shibuya Honey toasts were the more instagrammable and popular desserts but I was especially drawn to the mille-crepe cakes. They were moist and soft and creamy, quite unlike some I had tried in Singapore, which tended to be on the drier side.
Ferrero (chocolate hazelnut) mille crepe
Hazelnut-y with a rich dark chocolate cream in between layers and layers of soft and moist crepes.
Nutella Banana mille crepe
Vanilla cream sandwiched between layers of mille crepe and a stack of bananas in between! This is a more nommy option. Bananas and Nutella are like the magic combination. There are also Nutella Banana crepes from the roadside stalls in BKK and they are so yummy! In this mille crepe cake, the bananas add a starchy texture to the already soft and silky layers.
During one of my first visits to After You Cafe this trip, I ordered the green tea latte. But I guess, it was too sweet for my liking... Actually, regulars at After You Cafe will know, that the free flow complimentary drink is da best!! It's not sweet, and you can adjust the adequate sweetness by adding the sugar syrup at the side, to your liking. But that drink is so refreshing and light and thirst quenching, it really compliments all the desserts well.
Matcha Mille Crepe
I felt this was more like a green Thai Milk tea kind of taste. Didn't get any strong Matcha flavours, but a more subtle green aroma. This mille crepe cake had a darker, caramelized top layer with a light dusting of icing sugar. Even so, it's not overly sweet and so smooth.
Original Mille Crepe
With its light caramel drizzle, slightly chewy top layer, lightly vanilla flavoured whipped cream, this was actually my favourite of all the flavours! Love the contrast between the chewy top layer and soft mille crepe layers. The cream is fragrant and the caramel drizzle is just right... so yummy!!
After You cafe is definitely a must-go... But I guess you already know that, judging from the queues outside the cafe everyday...
